Summer weather is fast approaching and so is wanting to spend every minute you can in your swimming pool. Everyone hates dealing with mosquitos, flies and other pests that come with with the summer heat.

Did you there is a simple remedy to keep pests at bay? Peppermint oil! By putting peppermint oil in a spray bottle with water and spraying the area around your pool and also on yourself, it keeps insects and pests away. Mosquitoes, flies, spiders, ants, many other types of insects and also mice. This solution also works great for inside your home too.

To get started, buy some peppermint oil online or at your local store. Be sure to get 100% pure peppermint oil with no additives. Mix a few drops of peppermint oil with some hot water and place it in a spray bottle. The recommended solution is 5 to 10 drops of peppermint to a cup of hot water and place in a spray bottle. If are covering a larger area, such as outside around your pool or the doors outside your home then increase the amount of peppermint oil to however many cups of solution you need based on the recommended solution above.

You can use the solution to spray down countertops, furniture, blinds and hard to reach areas in your home where insects can be present. Be sure to test small areas first to make sure that the spray doesn't damage the area you want to cover.

Peppermint oil can also be put on cotton balls and placed in areas you don't want insects to be. This is a great way to repel mice, ants and spiders.

If you want the scent to last longer in your spray bottle then store it in the fridge. You can also spray the peppermint solution on your skin if you are going to be outside being it is a great way to repel mosquitoes. Be sure to do a test on your skin first to see if you are sensitive to peppermint oil. Some people find that it can be irritating to their skin.
